We have gathered a few tips that you can use to create better videos at home. They also work for your e-meeting using Zoom, Skype, or any other virtual meeting app.

- POSITION
The best videos are on landscape mode. This is your phone on a horizontal position to avoid the black bars on the sides. The portrait mode or vertical position is better for Instagram stories and TikTok. For all videos, make sure your device is well secured with a tripod or some props and the camera is at the right angle for you.
Top Tips: Leave some space around yourself, don’t stay too close to the camera. A good minimal measure is the length of your arm. Use your space, look straight into the camera, not yourself on your device and avoid being at the very centre of the video.
2. BRIGHTEN UP
Make sure you are facing the light source and have no shadows on your face. The best light is natural light! A bright overcast day may work better than direct sunlight. Artificial lighting can be a fun way to be creative by using coloured lightbulbs or fairy lights. If you are ready to invest, there are many ring lights for home-made videos available.
Top Tips: Face a big window. When the sunshine is too strong, cover the window with translucid baking paper to create a diffused lighting effect.
3. BACKGROUND
This is entirely linked to the objective of your video. Think of what is on your background and how personal it should be. The background will set the mood for your video. Close shots of yourself on plain backgrounds such as a blank wall works best for e-meetings and interviews. Wide shots in a long room or showing parts of your personal belongings make the videos more personable.
Top Tips: Check everything that will be on camera to avoid exposing any private items. Blur the background for more interesting results.
4. SOUND
Soundproof your videos by making sure you have switched off your devices and there is no tv or music close by. Close windows and doors. Alert family members to stay away for the duration of the video.
Top Tips: For most videos your phone’s microphone should work fine. If you are singing or need a better quality of sound it may be good to invest in a microphone.
5. EDITING
The magic about home-made videos is that you can film it as many times as you like! There are many editing apps to try, and you can even add effects and sounds to your productions. Add text and graphics to help tell your story.
Top Tips: Sites such as Youtube will check if you have the copyrights to use music on your video. Make sure to have it all sorted before posting.
